Post-Holiday Sales Continue > Where to use that extra cash > Stockton, CA

If you’re the type of person who waits until the last minute to purchase holiday gifts, this is the year for you. Holiday retail sales are down significantly, placing many retailers in serious trouble of going out of business. In fact, there’s a list floating around the web of large retail outlets that are on their way out within the first few months of 2009.  We recommend searching for that list and steering clear of purchasing any gift cards from those stores, as they will be worthless.  For obvious reasons, we’re not going to post it here.

With retailers taking a huge hit this holiday season, many have decided to remain open for 24 hours in an attempt to grab every last available dollar from a consumer.  This year, the consumer is truly empowered to get a great deal.  If you go late (2:00 am), don’t plan on many people being there.  It’s your prime opportunity to get the deal of a lifetime.  We’ve already heard stories of people getting huge discounts just because they were the only ones there.

These opportunities will be available at retailers large and small, from clothing to electronics.  The key is to ignore the sticker price.  When you get to the cashier, ask for a better price or a bigger discount.  Chances are they’ll give you the discount.

Retailers are in a tough spot now because they need to eliminate inventory in preparation for what’s coming in next month (Spring items).

And if you thought Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) was big, just wait until after Christmas. Retailers basically have one week to “make it happen” for their bottom line.  This will be the week between Christmas and New Years.  All forecasts point to a dismal retail year for 2009 so this is their last chance, take advantage of it!

After you save all that extra money from distraught retailers (and if you have kids), save more by opting for a day at John’s Incredible Pizza Company in Stockton.  The food is all-you-can-eat plus it’s indoors, which is one of our favorite things about John’s.  Here’s what else we love:

*  You’re not going to run out of space or things to do here.  John’s is easily the largest indoor fun place for kids anywhere.

*  Yes, these are real indoor rides for kids, like the twister that spins you around at what feels like several hundred miles per hour and the coolest bumper car setup we’ve seen.

*  Fun and interactive video and other games

*  Multiple dining rooms each with their own theme.  Themes range from sports to cartoons and each is easily the size of a restaurant.

*  The reason for multiple dining rooms would be the all-you-can-eat-buffet.  The buffet ties the rides for our favorite part of John’s.  Simply said they have more pizza flavors than you can imagine, tons of pasta variations and a fantastic salad bar for those seeking something a little lighter.  Of course if you dine on the salad bar you’ll have room for the all-you-can-eat dessert section.

While driving around town today, my husband and I reminisced of the days when we’d go out together – just

the two of us – to someplace like Dave and Busters and have a drink and play video games.  House of the Dead was our favorite, and having those date nights really kept us connected and our romance ignited.

These days, with three kids in tow, we have little time together and the last time we went on a date was probably for our anniversary.  We love our kids and go to great lengths to make sure they are involved in enriching activities.  All of our plans and outings are geared towards them, and while this is great family time, we need to remember to make time for ourselves to keep our relationship strong.

Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to rekindle that flame and plan a special evening out with your sweetheart.  We typically choose a convenient night the week of and then coordinate a babysitter for the kids.  Fortunately, our kids get to hang out with their grandparents, so we know they’ll have a great time.  Since it seems like my kids have perpetual separation anxiety – especially when they know I’ve got something planned that doesn’t include them – I try to arrange a special day out for them, as well.  This makes for a welcome and easy transition, which any babysitter can appreciate.

Having a fun time planned for the kids while you’re out is easy and can be anything you know will get them excited!  Maybe have them pick out a new movie to watch with popcorn in a mock sleepover party.  Board games, hide and seek, or ice cream sundaes can keep them happy and occupied which means more time out with your Valentine.

Planning an outing can be just as easy, particularly if you choose a place that has everything you need for a night filled with fun.  John’s Incredible Pizza Co. is perfect for a kid’s night out.  No need to worry about making them dinner and getting everything set up for your evening out.  John’s has a great selection of pizzas and pastas to choose from, even a fresh veggie salad bar.  You can eat as much as you like and then head to the fun side for video games, rides, and more.  We have had so much fun playing indoor glow golf, bowling, and riding the bumper cars!  When you need time to relax or refuel, just head back to the food side, find a quiet room, and chill out.

If the kids know they’ll be having a special night out filled with fun and food, you’ll be able to enjoy your date night even more.  Be sure to sign-up on the John’s Pizza e-mail club to receive money saving coupons, and have the kids bring their report cards so they can earn free Fun World credits as part of the John’s Community Incentives program.

John’s Incredible Pizza Offers:

-an all-you-can-eat buffet of pizza, pasta, salad bar and even dessert bar (my favorite)
-multiple rooms for sports, cartoons and even music videos
-a play area that is perfect for kids AND adults!
-always easy to park, not like a huge amusement park
-it’s extremely reasonable in price when compared to a drive to Anaheim
