Bosley Medical and Bosley

Bosley Medical, Bosley and my friend’s new permanent hair restoration.

A couple of years ago I ran into a friend of mine at Victoria Gardens.  He was losing his hair and stressed out to say the least.  While we were at a restaurant/bar a Bosley Medical commercial came on.  He joked about the need for a Bosley hair transplant.  I didn’t take him seriously but I should have.  About a year later I saw him again, at the same restaurant, but now with a full head of hair.  I really didn’t know much about the procedure only that the ones I’ve seen in the past didn’t look very natural, but his looked incredible.  I couldn’t tell that he had transplants at all.  Needless to say, he’s a happy and much more confident guy after his Bosley procedure.

I don’t really need a procedure.  My hair seems pretty normal for being 38 but I was intrigued by what he had done so I did a bit of research.  This is the perk you get for being a full-time web researcher.  What I found was pretty cool.  I had no idea what was available for  hair loss today, particularly from Bosley.  They have their new Bosley laser comb as well as some new genetic test that will tell you if you’re going to be bald later in life.  I think the purpose of the test is so you can better manage your hair loss before it happens, a preemptive strike if you will.  It seems like a good idea to me.

So based on the research I’ve done, Bosley seems to be the top company in this industry with experience dating back to the ’70’s.  Experience is good, you don’t need someone practicing on you!

The best information I found was the following, which also contains a unique Bosley video.  The video shows one man’s experience with Bosley Medical from beginning to end.  Yes, this includes footage of the actual Bosley procedure being done.

What is a hair transplant?

This is a procedure where we take hair from where you have more than you need and artistically place it where you need more.  This procedure takes donor dominant (DHT resistant) hair follicles and transplants them into thinning or balding areas.

Some of the hair transplants I’ve seen don’t look natural.  Why is this?

If you see a recently completed hair restoration that does not look natural it’s likely because it’s a bad hair transplant.

Bosley hair transplants are virtually undetectable because they are so natural-looking.  We’ve discussed in our multi-part series that follicular units grow in groupings of 1-4 hairs typically.  These groupings of hairs are randomly placed in hand-done recipient sites.  The emphasis at Bosley is to try to duplicate nature.  The microtechnologies used have been refined to a point where often even other medical doctors are unable to differentiate between natural hairs that are original and those that have been transplanted.

Do you do hair transplants on women?

Current estimates at Bosley are that 20 million American women are experiencing some level of female pattern hair loss.

Dr. Bosley says ”The great majority of women with typical female pattern hair loss can be helped significantly,”.  Women can lose their hair in a pattern different from men but the treatment for both is similar.

As in men, the doctor locates a donor area with sufficient healthy hair.  Dr. Bosley states ”Women usually have a similar donor area to men. This means they have enough supply to fulfill the demand, so the results are usually very good.”

How many holiday shopping days are left?  When am I going to get my Christmas shopping done without the kids?  Every year, I have these same issues and try to find ways to alleviate the stress that can accompany shopping, especially holiday gifts for the kids.  With a busy, on-the-run toddler and a homeschooler, I rarely get out anywhere by myself.  This makes it difficult to accomplish most any task in a timely and efficient manner, but makes buying presents that will be a surprise completely impossible.

This year, I’m going to try something a little different.  In years past, I’ve left the kids at home with my husband and had to listen to them complain about not being able to join me, or dealing with a little one who has separation anxiety.  It’s hard to leave when they’re in tears and falling apart.  As much as we want to impart reason upon our children with explanations of how we’re doing something nice for them, kids deal in the present and how they’re feeling at that particular moment.

What the kids need is something to distract them from the fact that I’m going out to do St. Nick’s bidding!  This year, I’ve planned to get my husband and/or my folks to take the kids to John’s Incredible Pizza Co. for a couple hours of kid-friendly food and loads of fun things to do with the kids.  With all of the music, rides and games, the kids will forget about me long enough so I can run off with my Dear Santa wish lists and get all of my kids’ favorite things.  We usually do a “top 5 best “ list to help our kids narrow down what they really love, that way we can throw in some practical gifts and handmade presents, as well (think Klean Kanteen reusable water bottles and knitted scarves!).

This year, I hope to get my shopping done with less stress and no tears.  In fact, I have a feeling that the kids will be begging to have a special night out again without me!  Maybe that will give my husband and I a chance to go on a Date Night once in a while.

While you’re shopping, be confident that your kids (and other loved ones) are having fun.  Here’s why:

1.  John’s offers the best all-you-can-eat buffet anywhere, bar none!  It includes pasta bar, salad bar, dessert bar and of course, PIZZA, in every imaginable combination.

2.  Drinks:  Beer and wine are available but at a 2 drink maximum.  Obviously, soda and water are available too!

3.  Fun World is just that….FUN!  With park-style rides, all indoors and games that are fun for both kids and adults, it’s a great choice.

4.  Cost:  This is the best part about John’s.  A trip to Anaheim will set you back at least $356 for a family of four and that’s just to get in!  If you’re cost conscious like we are, head to John’s.

Day after Thanksgiving sales are nearly here and every year people head out early en masse to find deeply discounted items.  Many of these purchases are intended as Christmas gifts.  With the way our economy has been, more people than ever will be looking for great deals on the things they want for Christmas this year.

This phenomenon, also known as Black Friday, is a huge event.  A few years ago I was traveling to Canada the day after Thanksgiving and experienced unusually heavy traffic getting across the border.  It seems that Canadians flock across the border to take part in this major sales event.

In the past, I have attempted to take part in this discounted shopping frenzy.  What I encountered were long lines in the parking lot, long lines in the stores, and mostly a lot of chaos.  The deals were usually not any better than other sales offered for last-minute Christmas gift shoppers or even some pre-Thanksgiving deals.  I’m sure there are some out there who have scored some deal-of-the-century, but that just has not been my experience.  Hey, I’m such a spoiled So-Cal resident that I even try to avoid Disneyland during crowded times and go when we nearly have the place to ourselves!

Instead of waiting in lines to buy more stuff, why not pack up the kids and head out for some fun things to do as a family??!!  We love going to John’s Incredible Pizza Co. for a fun day out with the kids where we can eat, play and have a clean, indoor facility to let the kids run around.  It’s the perfect way to get out of your Thanksgiving feasting-induced coma and play, play, play!  Be sure to check their website www.johnspizza.com for special incentives, and join their email club for additional discounts and promotions!

Why do we love John’s Incredible Pizza so much?  Here’s our top 5 reasons (there are many more!):
