How many holiday shopping days are left?  When am I going to get my Christmas shopping done without the kids?  Every year, I have these same issues and try to find ways to alleviate the stress that can accompany shopping, especially holiday gifts for the kids.  With a busy, on-the-run toddler and a homeschooler, I rarely get out anywhere by myself.  This makes it difficult to accomplish most any task in a timely and efficient manner, but makes buying presents that will be a surprise completely impossible.

This year, I’m going to try something a little different.  In years past, I’ve left the kids at home with my husband and had to listen to them complain about not being able to join me, or dealing with a little one who has separation anxiety.  It’s hard to leave when they’re in tears and falling apart.  As much as we want to impart reason upon our children with explanations of how we’re doing something nice for them, kids deal in the present and how they’re feeling at that particular moment.

What the kids need is something to distract them from the fact that I’m going out to do St. Nick’s bidding!  This year, I’ve planned to get my husband and/or my folks to take the kids to John’s Incredible Pizza Co. for a couple hours of kid-friendly food and loads of fun things to do with the kids.  With all of the music, rides and games, the kids will forget about me long enough so I can run off with my Dear Santa wish lists and get all of my kids’ favorite things.  We usually do a “top 5 best “ list to help our kids narrow down what they really love, that way we can throw in some practical gifts and handmade presents, as well (think Klean Kanteen reusable water bottles and knitted scarves!).

This year, I hope to get my shopping done with less stress and no tears.  In fact, I have a feeling that the kids will be begging to have a special night out again without me!  Maybe that will give my husband and I a chance to go on a Date Night once in a while.

While you’re shopping, be confident that your kids (and other loved ones) are having fun.  Here’s why:

1.  John’s offers the best all-you-can-eat buffet anywhere, bar none!  It includes pasta bar, salad bar, dessert bar and of course, PIZZA, in every imaginable combination.

2.  Drinks:  Beer and wine are available but at a 2 drink maximum.  Obviously, soda and water are available too!

3.  Fun World is just that….FUN!  With park-style rides, all indoors and games that are fun for both kids and adults, it’s a great choice.

4.  Cost:  This is the best part about John’s.  A trip to Anaheim will set you back at least $356 for a family of four and that’s just to get in!  If you’re cost conscious like we are, head to John’s.

4th of July celebrations and fireworks in Bakersfield are just a few days away. This year many people are opting to stay home in lieu of the expensive two week family vacation. This doesn’t mean your holiday fun has to suffer.

Bumper Cars4th of July barbeques are an absolute must, otherwise the holiday just wouldn’t be the same. Many of your local Bakersfield grocery stores are having big sales this Summer so check your local paper to see which chain has the best offers and make sure your barbeque has plenty of propane!

Fourth of July falls on a Friday this year, which makes for a fun and short work week for most.

If your family is like ours you’ll start the holiday with outdoor games or swimming (if you have a pool) then move to the cookout and ice cold beverages. As the sun begins to set it’ll be time to pack up and get ready for the fireworks show.

This year you can find all of the Bakersfield/ Kern County fireworks and events here. Most cities have gates opening between 5-7pm and fireworks starting around 9pm.

4th of July falls on a Friday this year. The fun part about having the 4th of July on a Friday is you then have the rest of the weekend to have more fun with the family!

The kids will undoubtedly need to get out for some physical activity and other fun things on Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures are expected to approach 100 degrees this holiday weekend so you should consider some indoor activities to keep the kids (and you) cool.

If the kids want fun with rides and games, there are many options around California for parks, but again you’ll likely be dealing with intense heat. If you’re like us and you have a young one in a stroller, it’s just not an option.

This leads us to the idea of kids indoor playgrounds and parks. Indoor parks are a must in California. John’s Incredible Pizza Co. is the only facility we’re aware of that has diverse offerings for the entire family with an amusement park feel.

Here’s what your family gets and why we like it so much:

* John’s Incredible Pizza is giant! You’re not going to run out of space or fun things to do here. John’s is easily the largest indoor play area for kids (or adults) anywhere. Now you can even take an interactive look at what a typical John’s Pizza is like on the inside. If you’ve never been to a John’s Pizza, you’ll be surprised.

* John’s has many indoor rides and games. These are real indoor rides for kids, including the coolest bumper car setup we’ve seen anywhere. The Bakersfield location also features speedway go karts and the dino ride.

* Interactive and fun video and other games

* Multiple themed dining rooms. Themes range from music videos to cartoons, each is easily the size of a standard restaurant.

* There is great need for multiple dining rooms due to the all-you-can-eat-buffet. The buffet ties the rides for our favorite part of John’s. Simply said John’s has more pizza flavors than you can imagine, tons of pasta variations and a fantastic salad bar for those seeking a lighter fare. Of course if you dine on the salad bar you’ll have room for the all-you-can-eat dessert section too, which includes soft-serve ice cream, cakes, cookies and more.

John’s Incredible Pizza Co. is located in Bakersfield, CA and is our community pick for kids indoor activities this 4th of July. Remember, this type of activity can easily consume a full day so plan accordingly.

Event planning whether it be for a children’s birthday party or corporate function will typically be handled by one lucky person. This person is 100% responsible for making sure everything goes smoothly from the food options to parking, accomodations, gifts and connectivity if the event happens to be a group party or business meeting.

Business meetings, fundraisers, group tours and large group parties require some serious planning if you want all to go well. In general make sure you have an established area, room or space for your event. If you’re planning a business meeting the room will likely need to be private so make sure there is sufficient seating, lighting, restroom facilities and connectivity. Most business meetings and other group events will need projection screens, podiums, dvd/vcr’s and internet connections so make sure your venue will accommodate these needs.

After you’ve established the actual space for the get-together put some serious thought into the food options. Regardless of the size of your party or event it will not be possible to please everyone but you can come close. Choose an event place that offers a large variety of food and drinks. Productivity is sure to increase if everyone is well fed and ready to go.

BowlingA party venue that offers all the necessities for your event is good but will it keep your guests happy and engaged? Consider a venue that not only offers the standard accommodations like laptop link and podium but also an environment that is fun, engaging and creates an escape for your guests from the day’s tasks.

Kid’s birthday party planning really isn’t all that different from planning a corporate event. You still need to have a place to host the party, food and drink variety for your guests and possibly a dvd/vcr player. With kids birthday parties you will have to pay close attention to the calendar, particularly over the Summer as not to conflict with holidays or too many of your guest’s vacations.

So we know the basics of what we need for these type of events now where do you go? There’s one party place that can handle a range of events from kid’s birthday parties to corporate meetings-John’s Incredible Pizza Company. Here’s why:

-The food is an all-you-can-eat buffet style offering a multitude of fresh pizza options, full salad bar, pasta bar and yes, dessert bar. Drinks are unlimited for an additional $1-2 per person and includes a variety of fountain drinks and coffee. Beer and wine are also available at an additional charge with a two drink limit.

-If one of your guests is in the mood for chicken or a different flavor pizza, ask. John’s will accomodate as they did for us over the recent holiday weekend. The available food and drink options are the closest you’ll get to pleasing everyone at your party or event.

-We’ve been to kid’s birthday parties at John’s. It’s a great set up because on top of all the otherBumper Cars offerings, you get a private room to open gifts, cut the cake and have private time with friends and family. This is great for picture or video taking without interruption and creates an environment where everyone can take a break from the activities.

-Much larger rooms and areas are available for business related functions where it’s completely quiet with closed doors and all the connectivity you’ll need for presentations and communication.

-Most important though for your event is the engaging and interactive environment John’s offers aka Fun World. This side of John’s offers a perfect break from mundane business activities as well as an incredible indoor play area for kids for birthday parties. Activities range from rides like the speedway go-cart track and bumper cars to the dino kiddie ride and Bear Necessities.

Organizing your next birthday party, group party or corporate event doesn’t have to be difficult. Remember to keep food options open and to offer an engaging environment that also provides an accommodating private space. We found all of these at John’s Incredible Pizza.
