It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is just about here. My husband and I were just remarking on howit doesn’t seem possible that it’s this week. But, it is, and we’re doing Thanksgiving at our house for the first
time! I find it easier to manage hosting an event by creating a simple checklist of things that need to be done during the week so I can focus on the necessities on the day of. http://www.rd.com/advice-and-know-how/thanksgiving-checklist/article13716.html. It’s also great to get your guests involved, too. Family and friends always enjoy bringing something they would like to share, so don’t be afraid to ask.
I have some special dishes I plan to prepare this Thanksgiving. Over the years I’ve collected a few recipes from friends, cookbooks and the internet. The internet is such a great resource for delicious new recipes, and Thanksgiving has inspired many that you’ll want to try out. One year I found a delicious recipe for Winter Vegetable Potage, and this soup has become my regular contribution to the Thanksgiving feast. It’s also something that can be made a day or two in advance, which frees up some time! Some other Thanksgiving side dishes we’ll be making are pan-sautéed brussel sprouts and oven-baked yam fries. My husband makes a delicious cranberry and walnut jello with pineapple cream topping, and there’s a recipe for a berry crisp I just tasted at a Thanksgiving Potluck playdate with the kids that I’m dying to try out!!
The task of baking the turkey is a little daunting for me, though. Being my first Thanksgiving that I’m hosting, I want to make sure everyone enjoys the food, and I think cooking the bird will add a bit too much stress for me. I’d be afraid of it being too dry, or taking much longer than I had expected. Instead, we’ve opted to order our turkey from Lucille’s BBQ. My husband and I love dining there, and figured it would be a real hit with our guests, too. I love finding ways to make life simpler and reduce stress, and this is a big one for me!
For this very reason, some families have decided to shake things up a bit and veer from the more traditional celebration of Thanksgiving. Making sure the house is clean and tidy, the kids are well-behaved and nicely dressed, and the meal is delicious and perfectly time are monumental undertakings. Instead, some families are getting out and finding togetherness time in less traditional ways. For example, a friend of mine is going camping with her family at Calico Ghost Town. She knows there will be plenty of fun things to do with the kids there, and is excited to start a new tradition with her family. They will be creating lasting memories as a family and she will get to participate with her family instead of worrying about getting everything together for a big event at home.
You don’t need to go far to have a fun outing. One place that will have everything you need for a recipe for fun under one roof is John’s Incredible Pizza Co. There is enough food and plenty of games to keep you satisfied and having a great time all day long. And the best part – no set up, cleaning or worrying involved! You can even sign up on their email club and receive special promotions, including a money saving coupon for discounts on your Thanksgiving Day visit.
Here are the top reasons we love John’s Incredible Pizza!:
The Food: We’ll say this is the best food set up for kids and adults anywhere. John’s offers and all-you-can-eat buffet of pizza, pasta, salad and desserts. For each category they offer many toppings, flavors, combinations and choices. The kitchen is constantly bringing out hot pizza while replenishing the salad and pasta bar. Beverages are all-you-can-drink with an additional cost of $1-2.
The Fun
: John’s is unique in that it is completely indoors but offers the fun of outdoor style rides and things to do. Our two favorite traditional rides are the twister and the bumper cars. We mix up the ride fun by playing video and other games. The great part is when the kids get hungry from all the play, you just walk back over to the food side and fill up again. This is one reason why John’s is perfect as an all-day activity for the kids.
A Break for the Parents: John’s is a very active environment, but they still offer quiet seating for dining in their multiple themed rooms. The themes range from cartoons to music videos and one with a more log cabin feel, which is intended to be the most quiet of the bunch. They also offer beer and wine with a 2 drink limit.
If you’ve never been to a John’s it’s probably hard to imagine what it looks like inside. You can go here and take a look.
